The question is, will the law take its action on CEO William Okedi or hes above the law?
Dr Okedi was arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officers on Tuesday morning at the NSSF building and whisked away to Integrity Centre for questioning.
After leaving Integrity Centre at about 5pm, Dr Okedi walked to his waiting car, avoiding questions from the waiting press.
He is accused of flouting procurement laws and abuse of office and he is expected to answer to the charges before an anti-corruption court next week Wednesday.
He is particularly accused of irregularly authorising the payment of Sh 12.8 million to Ernst & Young, a firm that had been contracted to manage funds meant for alcoholic drinks control.
He is charged for failing to ensure the agency hired a consultant to manage alcoholic drinks.
Mr Okedi is charged alongside five others who are also said to have been involved in the unlawful award of the tender to the firm, crimes said to have occurred around May 2013 to October 2015.
However speaking to the Nation on phone, his lawyer Charles Agwara refuted that the anti- drugs abuse agency boss had been arrested, saying the officers only requested him to record a statement over the matter.
“He was not arrested at all. He was only taken to record a statement over a matter that is still pending in court. He did not even write the statement,” said Mr Agwara.
Mr Agwara added that Mr Okedi was required to appear before the Anti-Corruption and Economic crimes court on August 3 but failed to so, claiming that Okedi was ill.
The magistrate ordered him to appear on August 17.
