Hoping that what has been promised is what's going to be kept since the two powerful parties wont just agree on their defeat as the results of the 2017 elelctions.

Nairobi - Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kinjuri has welcomed a statement made by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga vowing to avert bloodshed during 2017 general elections.

Kiunjuri said the ‘commitment pronouncements were crucial to national peace and co-existence’.

Speaking while opening a 6-day youth convention at PCEA Tumutumu in Nyeri, the CS said political competition should be on policies and ideas.

He, however, warned over double speak saying each of the two leaders should stick to his words.

“I hope the statements were sincere and there should be no double speak. Other elected leaders from the political divide should emulate the President and the former premier in making similar pledges. There should be no war in this country,” said Kiunjuri.

He further urged the media to ensure politicians preaching hatred among communities or inciting supporters do not get coverage.

“The media must take responsibility and also assist in fighting tribalism. Political leaders spreading hatred among communities should be rejected,” he advised while franked by PCEA Church Moderator Reverend Julius Guantai Mwamba.

Mwamba urged youths to avoid being used by politicians and aspiring leaders to cause violence.

He urged churches to deny platform leaders accused of causing violence and preaching hate speech.

“The Church must also come together and denounce tribalism leaders. They ought not to be accommodated because Church is meant for bringing people together,” said Mwamba.

During the 38th anniversary of first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s death, both Uhuru and Odinga vowed to avert violence emerging form forthcoming elections.

The President said next general election campaigns will be healthy while the CORD leader said the unity of Kenyans is greater than the ambitions of politicians.
