Church Collapses and more than 10 People are Injured

A church collapsed on Sunday night following a heavy downpour Namulungu village, Kakamega County.
This happened at Matunda area in Likuyani Sub-county where church leaders of Imani Pentecostal Assemblies of God were holding a meeting.

A heavy downpour is said to have pounded the area on Sunday afternoon after which water started leaking into the church at around 7 pm causing the building to crumble.
According to Pastor Prince Ganira, most of those injured were leaders since the church service had already been concluded.
“We thank God the incident happened after church service as most of the congregation had left. Only leaders had been left behind for a meeting,” stated Ganira.

Confirming the incident, Likuyani OCPD Meshack Kiptum said that four victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret with the rest being taken to Matunda Hospital and Kitale Referral Hospital.
The incident comes as the country continues to grapple with the aftermath of floods that have rocked different areas in the past one week leading to casualties.
On Tuesday morning, a one and a half year old girl was retrieved from rubbles of a building that collapsed in Nairobi's Huruma estate four days into the rescue mission.
Rescue officials disclosed that the baby girl was found emaciated and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.
